Sailing, as you know is a huge passion of mine. So, being brought on to score The Wind Gods was nothing short of wonderful. Being able to mix my main passions together, composing and sailing, that is SO satisfying.
This documentary follows Larry Ellison’s 10-year quest to bring the oldest trophy in international sports, The America’s Cup, back to the United States. In the 33rd America’s Cup race Ellison organizes an elite team to sail USA-17, the most technologically advanced sailboat ever built, against the defending Swiss team, which held the cup for seven years. The documentary catches from start to finish the intimacy of competitors and the courage that leads men to test their limits.
I had the chance to record the score to this gorgeous documentary at Warner Brothers’ Eastwood Scoring Stage in front of a wonderful orchestra.
